Chair's Message

I am pleased to have the opportunity to provide this message on behalf of the Consulting Engineers of Saskatchewan.  In a time of global economic uncertainty, Saskatchewan stands out from the rest as our economic momentum continues.  People are moving back to our province and our population has reached a 20 year high.  Much of this growth is a result of continued strong demand for Saskatchewan resources.  Along with this comes growth in other supporting sectors of our economy.  In addition, there is an emphasis on infrastructure renewal at all levels of government.  All of these factors have resulted in strong demand for consulting engineering services, and have encouraged our firms to continue to expand their businesses with confidence.

There are a number of initiatives that CES is undertaking in the upcoming year, including the following:

  • To accommodate the recent demand for consulting engineering services, we will continue to promote Consulting Engineering and Geoscience as a viable career option.  This will be accomplished in a variety of ways, including: presentations at schools across the province, the roll-out of the recently completed ACEC (national) video, and the Roadshow Display to highlight this year's award-winning projects;
  • We are excited to be working towards delivering an Economic Summit entitled: "Sustainable Saskatchewan - Managing the Growth". This summit will bring together a variety of stakeholders who can contribute to a dialogue about how to continue to grow the Saskatchewan economy;
  • The joint CES and Government Consultant Selection Working Group continues to work together on new initiatives. We are nearing completion of the Professional Services Agreement and have already begun to work on a Standardized Request for Proposal document;
  • Our newly created Young Professionals committee just completed their first year with great success.  We look forward to continued involvement and interaction with this dynamic and enthusiastic group;
  • We continue to raise the profile of CES by taking leadership roles in areas of significant importance and interest to our clients and the general public, and are viewed as "Trusted Advisors";
  • Our website has undergone changes and offers many new features, one of particular interest being a search option for "Field of Specialization" that allows users to narrow their search to a specific field of engineering;

  • CES is proud to continue offering professional development opportunities for CES members. Once again we will be offering PSMJ Project Management Bootcamp training in early 2010, and we will continue to look for other professional development opportunities that will benefit our members.

I invite you to explore our website in greater detail as it contains useful informaton related to CES including: member firm profiles, upcoming events and seminars, project awards, and publications.
