Low Tech Approach to Disinfection Enhancements Confirmed with High Tech CFD Analysis
Project Description
To assist the City of Saskatoon in providing clean, safe drinking water for its growing population, Associated Engineering has implemented well-established disinfection system enhancements at the Avenue H Water Treatment Plant and confirmed their effectiveness using advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling. The modifications focused on adjusting the clarified water pH using carbon dioxide injection to enhance chlorine effectiveness and increasing chlorine contact time by installing baffle walls. The CFD analysis results show that installation of the baffle walls increased contact time by more than 90%. Consequently, substantial increases in water quality have been achieved.
