Province of Saskatchewan Vehicle Inspection Station Location Strategy
Project Description:
The Vehicle Inspection Station (VIS) Location Strategy is innovative in its province-wide evaluation of strategic locations for truck weight and safety compliance. A justification for the compliance enforcement program in Saskatchewan was identified through a benefit / cost analysis of weight and safety benefits versus operating costs. An on-going monitoring plan was established to facilitate internal evaluations of existing and potential VIS sites by the Transport Compliance Branch. The Strategy identifies potential partnerships with adjacent neighbouring jurisdictions in order to provide a unified TransCanada and International enforcement presence. The Strategy was the catalyst for the implementation of three pilot Remote VIS sites in rural areas within Western Canada.
