

College Building Rehabilitation, University of Saskatchewan
Project Description:
The College Building is the most prominent building at the University of Saskatchewan and one of the largest heritage conservation projects completed in Canada in recent years. Completion of the project comes at a time when awareness of the value of heritage conservation is coming to the forefront. The main threat to historic buildings being neglect and eventual demolition. After three years of consultation, design and construction, the building has been reopened for Saskatchewan´s centennial celebration. The project included preservation of Convocation Hall, the main corridors and stairwells, rehabilitation of the building superstructure and foundations, new mechanical and electrical systems, and architectural upgrades for the building envelope and user spaces. New portions of the project include underground pedestrian links to Physics and Saskatchewan Hall, and an atrium space that connects the College Building to the Administration Building. Significant user spaces include the President´s Offices, which overlook the bowl, an Art Gallery, Museum of Antiquities and a new "First Stop" student centre in the atrium.
