CES 2003 Brian Eckel Award of Merit in the Building Science Category

Project Description:

  • Provided civil, landscape, structural, mechanical and electrical design services for this innovative and unique College, located in Regina.
  • The building was designed with a cast-in-place structure with a bonded post-tensioned beam system selected to achieve the large cantilevers of the building frame.
  • Basic lighting form involves the use of fluorescent indirect lighting in all classrooms and offices, including motion sensors and two level switching.

The Judges´ Comments:

  • The unique architectural details create both opportunities and problems for innovative engineering solutions.
  • The curvilinear cantilevered structure challenged the consulting engineering team to provide unique design solutions.
  • The architecture of this building resulted in major engineering challenges that were successfully addressed by the engineering consultant.
